How to check your SRD status

1. Visit the official SASSA status portal or SASSA Services portal.
2. Enter your South African ID number and the phone number used when you applied.
3. Click Check Status — the portal will display Approved, Declined or Pending and payment dates if available.

Why check your SRD status?

Knowing your status lets you plan finances and, if necessary, submit an appeal or update your bank details so payments can be processed.

Common status messages

• Approved: Your application passed verification. The portal shows payment dates and payment method.
• Declined: Application failed verification — reasons are often means test, conflicting information, or incomplete documentation.
• Pending / Under review: SASSA is still verifying details — allow up to 90 days for appeals or complex checks.

The SRD grant is for residents of South Africa who meet eligibility criteria (citizen/permanent resident/refugee/asylum seeker; aged 18–60; unemployed; meet means test). Check the official SASSA portal for the latest criteria.

Common reasons for delayed or missing payments

• Bank account balance exceeding threshold or incorrect bank details.
• Verification delays due to workload or data mismatches.
• Technical issues or missing documentation.

Appeals & reconsideration

If your application is declined you may submit a reconsideration (appeal). SASSA typically takes 30–90 days to process appeals. Keep copies of documents and consult local SASSA offices or ITSAA if uncertain.
